Some Nights

Both Adam and I have been loving the new album by Fun, so we thought it’d be pretty fun to try singing “Some Nights”. We’ll need some more guys to fill out the parts, but even in the meantime it’s totally fun to sing. FUN!

What do you think?

The Pipes 2.0!

Hold on to your ears—

the Pipes you know and love are being rebooted—we’re starting fresh with a new sound, new original tunes and arrangements, and more fun than ever before!

As we cheer on the four former members who are moving on with bigger families, new homes and new adventures, the three of us remaining have decided to keep moving forward and continue making music together as the Smoking Hot Pipes. It’s been a wonderfully bumpy ride since the group started 5 years ago, and we’ll continue to sing because it’s our passion, because a cappella music is awesome, and we love every moment of it—so why not stir it up, fan the flames and make it roar!

With our new direction in mind, we’ve already started rehearsing and learning new music. Initially, we weren’t sure what we could pull off with just the three of us, but so far it’s been super surprising and encouraging! Still, we’d love to add a few new voices to the mix, so…

We’re looking for new members!

  • Any voice part, high to low
We’re looking to fill out our sound, so we’re looking for singers from any voice part. We like to bounce around from part to part (and solos), so a good vocal range would be ideal.
  • Vocal percussion/beatboxing ability is a big plus
Vocal p is a totally fun part of contemporary a cappella music and even if you’re not a pro, we’d love to hear your best boots-and-cats.
  • Hold your own
Jumping from a backing part to a solo (and back again) can be necessary in a small group, so vocal and aural autonomy (and confidence) are pretty key.
  • Above all, fun!
We’re looking to practice once a week, gig out every month or so and record every once in a while, but our main goal is just to entertain people and have fun doing it. Male a cappella has a humor all its own, and you’ve gotta be able to laugh at yourself a little! No matter how great the arrangement or perfect the vowels, sometimes the laughter is what can win over a tough crowd, perk up their ears, and make everyone go home with a smile on their face.

We’re looking to start immediately, so give Mark a shout and let’s make some sweet vocal noise together!
